Everyone loves a classic crumble for dessert. This is a must have in your recipe stash. Replace the strawberries with any other fresh or frozen berries. The amount of sugar in the filling will vary with the tartness of the fruit. You can also use seasonal stone fruits like peach, cherries and plums.
For the apples, if you use regular red apples, add the zest of one lime as given. Green apples have a lovely tart flavor. In that case, omit the lemon zest. Pears also make a delicious crumble filling. Add a bit of red wine and reduce the water while cooking to give the filling a gorgeous fruity mulled wine flavor.
The crumble topping can be baked separately on a baking sheet and stored in a container for days. Just sprinkle over any dessert or ice cream for a buttery crunch.
